Review of the film Mission Raniganj: Akshay Kumar’s performance makes it a misfire that isn’t even a shadow of Kaala Patthar

The movie Mission Raniganj is based on the true event of Jaswant Singh Gill, an engineer who saved 65 miners who were stranded in a coal mine in West Bengal in 1989 due to flooding.

Parineeti Chopra plays Gill’s wife, and Akshay Kumar plays Gill in the movie. The script for the movie was written by Vipul K.

Script for Mission Raniganj

We are introduced to Gill and his family in the opening Punjabi wedding song of the movie. He is an honest engineer who is committed to working for Coal India.

Mission Raniganj

He receives a call from Rajesh Sharma, a coworker, one evening, informing him that a catastrophe has occurred at the Raniganj Mahabir colliery.

The water table below the mine has been breached by a blast, flooding it and trapping 65 miners within. Gill comes to the scene and assumes control of the rescue effort. Due to the enormous pressure and potential for collapse, he understands that the traditional methods of pumping out water and excavating a parallel shaft are not practical.

He devises a creative plan to extract the miners one at a time by drilling a well and using a specially made steel capsule.

Corrupt bureaucrats, politicians, and members of the media, who work to undermine him and take advantage of the circumstance for their own benefit, provide him with numerous challenges, nevertheless. He also has to deal with his wife’s mental distress and the worried miners’ families. Will he be in time to save each miner?

Performances at Mission Raniganj

As Gill, Akshay Kumar gives a real portrayal that captures his bravery, wit, and compassion. He makes a good impression as an engineer who uses his knowledge and expertise to get through a difficult circumstance.

As a loving husband and father who takes care of his family, he also demonstrates his emotional side. Although she only plays a small part as his wife, Parineeti Chopra excels in it.

Through her gestures and conversations, she shows her support for her husband as well as her love for him. As Gill’s coworkers, friends, rivals, and foes, Rajesh Sharma, Pawan Malhotra, Kumud Mishra, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Ravi Kishan, Anant Mahadevan, Veerendra Saxena, Arif Zakaria, Saanand Verma, and Varun Badola all perform to varied degrees of success.

Additionally, the performers portraying the trapped miners do a respectable job of capturing their anguish, pain, hope, and solidarity.

Examination of Mission Raniganj

The movie’s idea is intriguing, and it has the makings of an engrossing human drama. The true story of the incident was an amazing display of engineering and bravery that belonged on film.

However, because of its poor execution, the movie falls short of its potential. Numerous issues plague the movie, including its poor production value, subpar visual effects, loud background music, dated melodrama, needless heroism, clichéd dialogue, and weak characters.

The characters’ motivations and behaviors are not fully explored in the movie, nor are the themes given a thorough examination. Additionally, the technical components of the rescue effort and the difficulties Gill and his team faced are not sufficiently highlighted in the movie.

The movie largely depends on Akshay Kumar’s star power and patriotism to move the story along.

Final Report on Mission Raniganj

An unheralded hero and his valiant endeavor to save 65 miners from a grave predicament are the subject of the movie Mission Raniganj.

Due to the film’s mediocre directing, scripting, and editing, it falls short of being an interesting and motivating one. Only Akshay Kumar’s performance and the true tale behind the movie make it worth seeing.

It’s interesting to note that Yash Chopra produced Kaala Patthar, a film on a similar subject created 40 years ago and still regarded as a cult masterpiece. With a bigger budget and greater resources, Mission Raniganj cannot match the size and feelings of that movie.

Mission Raniganj: 2/5 according to critics
